Types of Physiotherapy in Bellevue

DRY NEEDLING

Dry needling is a myofascial trigger point treatment that restores proper function to muscles that may be behaving abnormally. Painful knots can form on the muscles resulting in a restricted range of motion. Nodules can be formed by overuse, trauma, poor posture, lack of exercise, sleep disturbances, vitamin deficiencies, arthritis, or nerves being compressed. Dry needling allows the muscle to release, the circulation to improve, and the chemicals to disperse removing their effect on local nerves. Sterile, thin filiform needles are used, and relief/improved function is often rapid.

ELECTRIC MUSCLE STIMULATION

A therapy that uses electrical impulses to bring blood flow and circulation to the are administered, to relax muscle tissue and reduce pain. It is administered to areas of soft tissue where the patient is experiencing discomfort. EMS will feel to the patient like a tingly massage and the feeling increases as the therapist increases the intensity.

DECOMPRESSION

A non-invasive treatment that uses a controlled amount of weight to facilitate a gentle stretch to the cervical or lumbar spine and surrounding soft tissue. It is administered to patients who have acute or chronic neck or low back pain, pinched nerves, sciatica, disc bulges, facet syndrome, headaches, muscle pain, degenerative disc disease, or degenerative joint disease. This stretch helps to straighten and support the natural curve of the spine, relieving pressure off of the nerve roots and open up disc space promoting blood and nutrient circulation. It will feel like a gentle stretch.

RAPID RELEASE

Rapid Release uses high frequency vibrations that penetrate deep into the soft tissue breaking up scar tissue and adhesions from structures like muscles, nerves, tendons and ligaments resulting in immediate pain relief and easing chronic and acute muscle spasm. It is a non-invasive treatment and increases range of motion. It is used to reduce pain associated with joint sprains, strains, arthritis, tendonitis, bursitis, muscle spasm, nerve pain and most musculoskeletal disorders. To the patient, It will feel like a high speed massage.

ULTRASOUND

Ultrasound therapy uses sound waves and heat to break up scar tissue and adhesions that form over the muscle fiber. Due to the heating factor, It will increase blood flow and circulation. We administer this therapy when a patient has suspicion of scar tissue or if a patient has experienced an acute exacerbation. It is ONLY administered to areas of soft tissue. It will not feel like much to the patient. The therapist will apply a conductance gel that allows the wand to conduct the sound waves. The therapist will then move the wand over the affected area in a slow, circular motion.

BODY TEMPERING (BOOM STICK)

The boom stick uses weight and applied pressure to relieve tightness in muscles, fascia, organs, and nerves by breaking up trigger points and muscle adhesion. This process breaks tissue out of its adhesive state, and helps to prevent hernias, tears, tweaks, muscle ruptures and protects against trauma.

K-LASER

The K-Laser uses infrared light to increase circulation, draw water, oxygen and nutrients to the damaged area, reduce inflammation, muscle spasms, stiffness, and pain. It aids in increasing the metabolic activity of the cells of the affected tissues, and promotes healing on a cellular level. It is administered for both acute and chronic problems and is non invasive. To the patient, it will feel like nothing more than a small amount of heat. The therapist will move the laser directly over the affected area in a slow and circular motion (hovering the wand 1-2 inches above the skin).

NEURO FLOSSING (NERVE GLIDING)

Neural flossing aims to restore mobilization of the peripheral nerves. When a nerve is injured It won’t be able to glide normally through the surrounding sheath which can cause sharp pain. Dixon Center implements banding practices on the joints in conjunction with the gliding methods to compress the surrounding tissue. The constriction and movement combined helps to break up scar tissue and release adhesions. The restriction of blood flow during this process forces blood into the muscles, strengthening the muscles themselves.

POSTURE PUMP

Posture Pump is a form of traction for the cervical and lumbar spines. It aids in restoring the natural curve of the spine and promotes hydration of the vertebral discs. It is administered to patients who present with a loss or a reverse of spinal curve. The patient will lay their head, or low back in the posture pump device and the patient will then fill the device with air, putting either the neck or low back into an extension. The patient will feel a gentle and controlled stretch.

KINESIO TAPING

Kinesio taping gives support and stability to your joints and muscles without affecting circulation and range of motion. When placed, the tape lifts the skin off of the muscle allowing the lymphatic system to eliminate tissue fluid and increase blood circulation. The tape is effective for reconditioning the abnormal muscle tension, or strengthening the weakened muscle. Kinesio tape can be used on a variety of body parts for various pains and disorders. Most common applications placed in office are on the back, knee, foot and shoulder.

MYOFASCIAL RELEASE (SCRAPING)

“Scraping” applies pressure to restricted myofascial connective tissue to eliminate pain and restore motion. Gel is applied to the affected area and a metal scraping tool is used to rub out restrictions and adhesions between the skin, underlying fascia, and muscle fibers. This creates a release which results in pain relief, and allows for a better range of motion.
